In 1848, Louis Brandt opened a small workshop in the Swiss village of La Chaux-de-Fonds at the age of 23. Passionate about precision and quality, and with advanced watchmaking skills, his reputation for high-quality watches grew throughout Europe. The foundations for the Omega brand would be built on his dedication and hard work.

Louis died in 1879 and the business passed to his two sons, Louis Paul and Cesar. Inspired by their father's passion, they invested time and energy in growing the company and, in 1880, they changed the company's name to Louis Brand & Fils and moved its operations from La Chaux-de-Fonds to Biel/Bienne, taking up larger premises. In 1885, they developed the first series-produced caliber watch, the “Labrador" and this provided the basis for future watchmaking innovations, such as the 19-Linge caliber, revolutionising the watchmaking industry. But they didn't stop there: in 1892 they produced the first minute-repeater watch for the wrist.

Finally, in 1894, the brothers launched the Omega brand, at the same time releasing a new 19-Linge caliber and introducing other revolutionary methods. The "Labrador" movement had set a new standard for the watch industry in that every component could be replaced without modification by any watchmaker anywhere in the world with incredible accuracy, making this model unique at its time.

For Omega as a world-leading watch brand the rest, as they say, is history.
