An early 20th century Anglo – Indian unmarked silver teapot, Bombay circa 1910

Raj period. Of globular form upon four scroll feet with chased leafy junctions. The spout formed as an elephant’s head opposite a chased serpentine C scroll handle, leading to a hinged domed lid surmounted by a finial of a caparisoned elephant statant. The body separated into panels of embossed decoration of alternating village pattern and Chinese inspired trailing foliage including flowering prunus, all reserved against a textured ground.

Length – 20.8 cm / 8.18 inches

Weight – 382 grams / 12.26 ozt

There are many similarities between this teapot and the workmanship of Lucknow, while the elephant spout is a typically Bombay feature, it is likely this teapot was produced by a craftsmanship who trained or previously work in Lucknow.
