Dilessi murders - In April 1870 three aristocratic British travellers and an Italian diplomat were kidnapped by bandits near Athens. Ransom negotiations were bungled and three of the hostages were killed near Dilessi before the bandits were captured and executed. The incident caused a serious rift in Anglo-Greek diplomatic relations.
