λ RICHARD CROSSE (BRITISH 1742-1810)
Portrait miniture of a lady wearing a lilac coloured dress with lace trim and white lace fischu, a strand of pearls entwined in her brown upswept hair
watercolour on ivory
gold frame
oval, 43mm (high)
The sitter is believed to be a relative of the Coot/Syson family. In Richard Cross's fee book it is recorded that a Mrs Coore had her portrait taken on 27th April 1778. It is just possible that the 'r' in the fee book could have actually read as 't' in which case the sitter could be Mrs Coote.
