Selection of autograph letters written by prominent British social reformers, to various recipients, comprising: John Bright (seven letters, one thanking Thomas H. Ward for the present of some volumes "of the works of our best Poet...All who love Petry will be much indebted to you", two pages, 137 Piccadilly, 7 May 1881; two letters to Mr W. Currey in Manchester expressing Bright's wish to call upon him, Rochdale, 20 January 1875 and 5 October 1877); Richard Cobden (letter to W. Chessin, reading "I do not think you can find any account of our imports from Russia in any of your official tables. It is in the imports alone from that country that furnish a proper test of the value of our trade. In my speech...you will find a correct account of our imports from Russia last year, as furnished me by the best informed merchants in the City of London", three pages, last page affixed onto larger card, 38 Grosvenor Street, 2 June 1853; Joseph Hume (twelve letters, one mentioning his intention "to press the reduction of the duty on tobacco", two pages, London, 10 March 1830; another letter speaking against "the existing monopoly of the Ministry of the Bible in Scotland and England", eight pages, 17 March 1838); some with creasing and handling wear, all 8vo.
