A COLLECTION OF NINE 16TH CENTURY AND LATER BRONZE AND BELL METAL MORTARS
including a bronze example, possibly French, the body cast with recurring panels of satyrs within foliate scrolls, with ribbed lug handles and domed circular foot, another with the Tudor Rose surmounted by a crown, one cast with putti masks, and others of various designs, together with eight pestles,
the first 12cm high
The mortar cast with satyrs is of identical form to a mortar catalogued as second half 16th century, possibly French, and sold at Sotheby's, London, 9th July, 1987, lot 363.
