TAXIDERMY: GOLDEN-HANDED TAMARIN MONKEY (SAGUINUS MIDAS), EARLY 20TH CENTURY
free standing full mount. A naively mounted piece, made and sold locally as a tourist souvenir from South America. The eyes are made of seeds, as glass taxidermy eyes would not have been available to the locals that mounted it. The species is also known as the ‘Midas tamarin’, after King Midas from Greek mythology. Famed for his ability to turn everything he touched into gold.
