A mid-20th century Thai unmarked silver betel box, Chiang Mai circa 1950

Of squat ovoid form, raised in four tubular feet with chased passant elephants. The body with four profusely embossed vignettes of figures in the Burmese style, against textured and lattice work backgrounds, including an archer, figure taking tea in front of an elephant, a group of dancers and a rider on horseback, all reserved with foliate scroll arabesques and stylised leaf rims. The pull off domed lid with similar proudly embossed figural vignettes, all surmounted by a cast elephant finial atop of a chased calyx. The underside with chased decoration of basket weave or sack cloth.
