A pair of mid-20th century Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) silver candlesticks, Kandy circa 1920 by Kandyan Arts Association

Modelled as temple columns, with a square base leading to stepped section rising to a square section and faceted column chased with scrolls and foliate motifs resembling wood carving, terminating in broad rim circular capitals. Filled. Each marked to the front edge with lion rampant sinha mark and KAA (Kandyan Arts Association). (2)

Height – 28.8 cm / 11.35 inches

These candlesticks are modelled after a form of column found in Kandy and the surrounding area, including the inner sanctum of the Kandy audience hall, the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, and in the 14th-15th century drumming hall (digge) of the Embekke Devala, which is near Kandy.
