An early 20th century Ceylonese (Sri Lankan) unmarked silver lime box, Colombo circa 1920

Of shaped oblong form, with a hinged domed lid, with chased decoration of foliate scrolls centred with rosettes, edged with beading and flat chased hatching. The underside with a flat chased panel of foliate scrolls centred with a rosette against a ring punched ground.

Length – 14.5 cm / 5.6 inches

Weight – 231 grams / 7.43 ozt

Together with a note, headed From Her Highness The Princess of Berar, reading “Dear Doctor Trevor Hudson, with my grateful thanks for your kind care over many years your sincerely, Durru Shehvar”

Hatice Hayriye Ayşe Dürrüşehvar after marriage Durru Shehvar Durdana Begum Sahiba, Princess of Berar (1914-2006) was an Ottoman princess, the only daughter of the last caliph Abdulmejid II, who was the last heir apparent to the Ottoman Imperial throne and the last Caliph of the Ottoman Caliphate.
