A PINE CASED FRENCH SERINETTE, 19th century, playing two airs, each listed on a label to the interior of the lid, with a wooden handled crank
17.5cm high x 23cm wide x 27.5cm deep
First appearing in the early 18th century, the serinette was used to teach canaries to sing a tune.
Provenance: Part of the extensive collection of musical boxes and automata of the late Daphne Ladell – longstanding member of the Musical Box Society of Great Britain and the Musical Box Society International.
