A late 17th century Norwegian silver peg tankard, Bergen circa 1690 by Peder Johannesen Reimers (b.1642, active 1670-95)
Of cylindrical form raised on three ball and claw feet, the hollow C scroll handle with cartouche terminal, the domed lid inset with a gilded Christian IV Half Krone of 1620, all raised by a cast lion sejant and sphere thumbpiece. The surround of feet with embossed decoration of large floral forms heightened with prick dot engraving, the lid with similar embossed trailing foliage. The two front feet with later applied semi-circular junction engraved with fanned ellipses. The handle with engraved decoration of a lattice of lines with a tulip below and an incised edge. The underneath of tankard later prick-engraved with initials L F over A F 1821, the front of tankard later prick-engraved with initials BEDG 1857 above traces of earlier initials, the cartouche handle terminal prick-engraved with initials LF. The above of the coin chased 1620. The inside with six applied pegs. The underside engraved '12 Lodig 12 gren' as well as 'W60 ½ Lov'. Makers mark only underneath, PR in a shaped cartouche.

Reimers the son of Jan Reimers (1610-70) and his second wife Kirsten Nielsdatter Smed (1613-1664), apprenticed to his father between 1655-60, and entered his masterpiece in 1670, then recorded in the citizens book in 1671.
