A 19TH CENTURY BRONZE MODEL OF THE LION OF LUCERNE AFTER THORVALDSEN, the reclining beast with a wound to his body, resting his paws on shields with heraldic crests and spears, on a rectangular plinth, raised on a Rouge Griotte marble rectangular base with canted angles and gilt incised inscription to the front 'Solidarite - Travail A notre Ami E. SINEUX FEVRIER 1881',

This small bronze is after the large stone monument designed by Bertel Thorvaldsen and hewn in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn. It commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution, when revolutionaries stormed the Tuileries Palace in Paris.
