First Edition of Solís y Rivadeneira’s account of Cortez’s conquest in Mexico; containing the often missing engraved frontispiece, lacking the last four leaves; contemporary limp vellum with remains of inked title to spine, without ties, binding detaching from body of text, soiled and stained, corners bent, small holes to spine and edges, frontispiece heavily repaired, with tear on bottom edge affecting author’s name, heavily stained, creased and torn throughout in some instances affecting the text and commentary, corners and edges torn in places; inscriptions of ownership to free endpapers and title page; folio, [Sabin 86446] Madrid: Bernardo de Villa-Diego, Impressor de su Magestad, 1684.
