Duke of Leinster - A George IV Irish sterling silver coffee biggin burner stand, Dublin 1821 by James Fray retailed by Matthew West
Of circular form with ovolo edge, raised on three fluted legs with lion paw feet, the central burner with ovolo rim. Engraved to both with a crest of a monkey statant, environed about the middle with a plain collar and chained. Fully marked underneath and part-marked to burner pieces.
Height – 6.8 cm / 2.6 inches
Weight – 270 grams / 8.68 ozt
The crest is for Fitzgerald, as borne by the Duke’s of Leinster
Probably for Augustus Frederick FitzGerald, 3rd Duke of Leinster (1791-1874), son of William FitzGerald, 2nd Duke of Leinster (1749-1804) and his wife, Emilia. On the 16th June 1818, he married Lady Charlotte Augusta Stanhope (1793-1859), the third daughter of Charles Stanhope, 3rd Earl of Harrington (1753-1829).
