*** First edition by Zoppino after the Giunta edition published in Florence in 1526. Italian translation of Bruni’s Latin work by Lodovico Petroni, dedicated to Francesco Sforza, duke of Milan. Leonardo Bruni (c.1370-1444) was an Italian humanist, historian, and statesman, often recognised as the most important humanist historian of the early Renaissance. He was secretary to the papal chancery from 1405 and served as chancellor of Florence from 1427 until his death.
