A late 19th / early 20th century Burmese unmarked silver bowl, Mandalay circa 1900
Of compressed circular form, the body with embossed decoration of scenes from the Ramayana, such as Ravana kidnapping Sita in his Pushpaka Viman to take her to Lanka and two warriors upon caparisoned elephants, all against a textured ‘wallpaper’ ground within architraves, below chased foliate scrolls, all above a band of stylised leaves. The underside with flat chased peacock encircled within pellets.
