A gift from the artist to William Gardener and by descent

Like a Dancer was executed for William Gardener's poem of the same name. Gardener was a friend of Evans. Having returned from serving in India during partition and previously China where he was friends with Peter Fleming, William became a member of the Barrow Poets and was close to Joseph Herman, Stevie Smith and others in bohemian 1950’s London.
