Lot 121

A RARE PAIR OF DUTCH AMSTEL-LOOSDRECHT PORCELAIN ORNITHOLOGICAL CACHEPOTS, circa 1785, with twin button handles, both painted with a landscape vignette of two exotic birds by a lakeside, the reverse with a smaller landscape vignette, with gilt scroll rims, 8cm high, Amstel and M.O.L. marks in underglaze-blue, incised * and 'L.j' marks (2) FOOTNOTES: After the bankruptcy of the Loosdrecht factory in 1784, the inventory and machinery were bought by Cornelius van der Hoop, who set up the Amstel factory (1784-1809). It is likely that the Amstel factory used the then well-known M.O.L. mark of Loodstrecht in their early years as a quality reference, as Loosdrecht was already a reputable factory.
