Attractive card featuring a pen and ink sketch of a sailboat, annotated on the reverse "With many loving good wishes for the New Year from Victoria, Malta, Dec. 1890", very light handling wear and yellowing, 116 x 90mm.

***Princess Victoria Alberta Elizabeth Mathilde Marie of Hesse and by Rhine, later Victoria Mountbatten, Marchioness of Milford Haven, was the eldest daughter of Louis IV, Grand Duke of Hesse and by Rhine, and his first wife, Princess Alice of the United Kingdom, daughter of Queen Victoria. She married his first cousin Prince Louis of Battenberg, an officer in the United Kingdom's Royal Navy, and lived most of her married life in various parts of Europe at her husband's naval posts.
