A Holland Mfg Bobbin Silk Winder c.1880s
of Cast Iron construction with black enamel paint and gold pin striping. The large wheel rotates the top bobbin, pulling the thread from the lower after it had passed through a tensioner, and over the large alloy wheel which was connected to the counting mechanism housed in the tower. The Holland Silk company was one of several silk manufacturers established in Willamantic , Ct in the 1860's. This is a very rare sewing accessory of museum standard dating to the 19th century, pre 1893.
