first edition, loosely-inserted 3pp. ALS by Lord William Amherst, portrait frontispiece of Amherst, 7 hand-coloured aquatints, 3 engraved maps (one folding), some spotting throughout particularly maps, folding map with repaired tear, armorial stamp of W. G. Kinleside Gratwicke to front pastedown, later half calf over original marbled boards, spine gilt with morocco label, worn, [Abbey Travel 536], John Murray, 4to, 1817.

***The letter, dated 1815, discusses Lord Amherst’s son ‘Jeff’ (1802-26): “we walked to Tothill Fields to see the boys play at cricket [...] I am going to dress for Lord Malmesbury.”
