Throughout his career, Verboeckhoven produced works consisting of landscapes with animals, herds of sheep, pastoral scenes, and other domesticated animals. His paintings are characterised by their meticulous attention to detail, accurate anatomy, and the ability to capture the unique characteristics and expressions of animals. His work is admired for its technical prowess and ability to evoke a sense of pastoral tranquility and realism (as with the present works). His work has also had a lasting influence on subsequent generations of animal and landscape painters.
