A RARE EXTINCT MULLERORNIS EGG, MADAGASCAR, PRE 17TH CENTURY
filled cracks, raised on a perspex stand,
the egg 19cm high
The Mullerornis is a genus of extinct elephant bird (Aepyornithidae) of Madagascar. Mullerornis was smaller than the more well-known Aepyornis elephant bird. Aepyornis eggs come to auction more frequently than the rarer Mullerornis eggs which can be described as half the size but twice as rare. For example see Chiswick Auctions, 21 January 2020, lot 18, sold for £9000.
