A SMALL JAPANESE GOLD LACQUER BOX AND COVER (KOGO).
Meiji period.
In the form of a clam shell, the cover decorated in gold and silver hiramaki-e and cut-gold foil replicating the sand dune and ripples on the water, the interior with elaborately painted open shells amongst seaweed in takamakie and iroe against a nashiji ground, approx. 10cm long.(2)
