The autumn sale of Silver and Objects of Vertu comprises an especially handsome offering of collectibles, luxury objects, and non-European silver. A private collection of desirable vesta cases, novelty propelling pencils, and various gold boxes populate the objects of vertu section; alongside luxury cigarette boxes by desirable names such as Cartier, Bulgari, and Puiforcat.
Luxury items continue with a fine selection of silver cocktail shakers, desk items, and drinking paraphernalia, followed by desirable items from Imperial Russia in enamel as well as trompe-l'œil. Non-European silver has healthy representation from the centres of Indian Raj silversmithing, to Burma, an assortment of Iraqi niellowares, and a cross-section of late Qing dynasty Chinese export silver.
British silver consists of a small private collection of modernist silver, composed of the recognisable wares of the main names of this style; Stuart Devlin, Gerlad Benney, Brain Asquith, and George Grant McDonald. Two great names of the 18th century are found within a pair of sauceboats by Paul de Lamerie, and a pair of very large second course dishes from the Lamb service marked for George Wickes. The final lots are six boxes and caskets of the highly desirable chinoiserie silver of the 1680’s, these were once elements of an elaborate dressing table set, and are presented to market for the first time in many generations.
