Silver & Objects of Vertu

Silver & Objects of Vertu

Date: 26th Feb, 2025 11:00
Location: Barley Mow Centre
Lots: 500

The lead lots for this sale represent some of the earliest holloware available from Newcastle. A tankard and a beaker by the two most prominent makers of this northern town, William Ramsay and Eli Bilton respectively. Few opportunities arise for collectors to purchase pre-1702 holloware from Newcastle, so to have two is remarkable. Also of provincial origin are a selection of 17th century spoons with examples from Exeter, Salisbury, Lewes, and most rarely Barnstaple. The non-European silver section is composed of 170 lots from India, Burma, Iraq, Persia, China, as well as other countries. Prominently featured is a small private collection of Ceylonese silver, demonstrating the wares of Kandy from the early part of the 20th century.
