48 leaves., daily personal manuscript log of events occurring during the Sept. 1899 – Nov. 1900, to include Duff’s comments of the sieges of Ladysmith and actions at Elandslaagte and Rielfontein, half leather over cloth, the initial portion of the diary concerning his time in India, from 25tth. November 1897 was removed by Duff, folio, 1899-1900
Duff aided Sir George White to Natal to take part in the Second Boer War of 1899 to 1901, He served as Assistant Adjutant-General on Lord Roberts Staff during the actions at Vet River and Sand River, the surrender of Johannesburg, and then the subsequent occupation of Pretoria. He was twice mentioned in despatches for the Boer War, appointed a Companion of the Order of the Bath, and received the Queen's South Africa Medal with five clasps.
